Where is home?
~exhibition

The practical outcome of my Master Thesis was an exhibition designed and organized after gathering insights from a participatory research with refugees.

As a way to show a post-colonial perspective of a globalized world, the exhibition “Where is home?” happened in the World Refugee Day, the day established by the UNHCR to foster discussion in the world about the topic. As a result, seven installations were developed, inspired by relational art.

Research and concept

Enhancing the social catalyst potential of the exhibitions.

Even though the definition of a meaningful experience is subjective, the experiments proposed pointed that social interaction and participation enhances the visitor experience to create a deeper connection to the content and the community.
Those aspects are questioning the ideology of the „White Cube“, which is the common approach for an exhibitive space: top-down, elitist, introspective.

Participatory design

The method to achieve social innovation and intercultural exchange was not only through design of participation, but also through participatory design.

In the context of Cologne, Germany, Syrian & Kurd refugees were approached as a way to curate an exhibit content that express their voices, after acknowledge them and build a community.
